The School of SHMCT at JNU conducted a Seminar on Role How to Deal with Common Challenges in the Hotel Industry? The resource person was Mr. Sunil Gupta, CEO , G.M Welcome Group. He said that running a hotel business isn’t a cakewalk. The level of risk involved is immense. Therefore, hoteliers must keep an eye on every hurdle that comes their way. Numerous hotels around the world tend to overlook most of the challenges. As a result, they face serious repercussions. He also shares his experiences. Further he focuses on common challenges like Hiring and retaining the staff , Change in marketing trends and dynamics , Operational issues , Rising cost of daily consumables , Housekeeping issues , Change in guest expectations, Irregular cash inflows, Data security challenges , adoption of Change in technology in Hotel Industry and their solutions.

He finally concluded that hotel industry is prone to challenges and pitfalls, and the hospitality industry is no exception. The last couple of years were accurate proof of it. But that same period is also proof that there’s nothing the industry can’t overcome. The way the industry has got back on its feet is indeed commendable.

The session was very interactive for 26 students. About 84% of students suggested that this kind of event was so effective and should be done on regular basis.
