Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary fast-growing field of study and knowledge, having applications in the domains, ranging from chemical, pharmaceutical and textile industries to genetics and agriculture. It affects our everyday life and it has become even more important during the present century, as some have called the 21st century as the 'Century of Biotechnology'.

Learning Perspective

The B.Tech. Biotechnology programme is designed to meet the ever-changing scenario in the field of Biotechnology. Our major emphasis is on practical knowledge, where students are trained in the field of Microbiology, Molecular and Recombinant DNA Technology, Bioprocess Engineering and Bioinformatics. Organization of seminars, workshops, industrial and institutional visits help the students to develop research temperament, orientation skills and to practically observe Biotechnological processes at Industrial level. Six months dissertation (Project Work) in the last semester provides an opportunity for the students to work in emerging fields of Biotechnology and to get placed in core Biotech Industries.

As a part of the curriculum, the students of B.Tech Biotechnology are required to undertake Industrial Visits to industriesrelated to Biotechnology to provide them with the real insight of working environment and to fulfill the curriculum demand. Scope after B.Tech: As a B.Tech Biotech degree holder you have 2 Options:

  • Go for Higher Studies: M. Tech, or Direct PhD.
  • Go for an MBA and enter the world of Business Development, Marketing & Sales. (You can choose Biotechnology with MBA in JNU, Jaipur).
  • Go for Teaching / Academic Job after clearing NET exam.
  • You are eligible for most of the Research Jobs with higher perks offered to those candidates who have qualified any of the national level entrance exams like CSIR NET, GATE, DBT BET, ICMR JRF, ARS NET.
  • Apply for a Corporate Research job and start climbing the corporate ladder.
  • After Ph.D., Research Scientist in any Fortune 500 Biotech, Pharma or FMCG company.
  • Post Doc Researcher: In India or Abroad.

  • B. Tech (Biotechnology) lays emphasis on the technical aspects as well as opens door to research in biological field, whereas, B.Sc. (Biotechnology) lays emphasis only on research in this field.
  • A B.Tech (Biotechnology) student can choose to pursue either M.Tech (Biotechnology) or Ph.D after clearing national level entrance exams in comparison to B.Sc. (Biotechnology) student who is eligible for Ph.D entrance exams only after completing M.Sc. (Biotechnology) course.
