A webinar on “Systems and Synthetic Biology: Powering 21st Century Biotechnology”, was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, School of Engineering and Technology on 25th August, 2021. The main aim of this webinar was to make the students of Biotechnology Engineering aware about the new age courses like the “System and Synthetic Biology”. The webinar was delivered by Dr. Riddhiman Dhar, Assistant Professor, IIT Kharagpur. Dr. Dhar discussed the different aspects of Synthetic and System Biology. He pointed out that how the system biology can be used for complex interactions and the collective behaviour of a cell or an organism. He also discussed the various aspects of synthetic biology and its use in designing artificial cells; using a combination of biological sciences with engineering. In the session, Dr. Dhar also guided the students about different career opportunities available in India and abroad. The webinar was very interactive and all the queries raised by the students were answered by the speaker satisfactorily.
