Ms. Sawhney started the session with a brief description about the field of food technology. She stated the difference between culinary art & food science. She emphasized that students should acquire knowledge of science and technology of food, across the whole value chain.
s. Sawhney, explained about the core areas of food technology and emphasized on learning through lab practical, industrial internship, industrial visits, workshops, and conferences. Moving ahead, she explained the various opportunities in this field after B.Tech. Food Technology. She explained the role and career prospects of food technologist in industries, academic, research and development, government jobs and jobs abroad as well. She specifically informed about the opportunities/career prospects for female candidates in the field of quality control, auditing, certification, academic, research and development, consultancy and regulations. At the end, she concluded by saying that food Technology is a field of numerous opportunities for fresher as well as experienced candidates; but the need is to inculcate certain skills needed for such kind of classification.
