Objective of the Session: To provide an exposure to the students about Food Processing, Snacks, Sweets, Namkeens, Bakery products, Packaging, Equipments and Machinery of the Industry.

Outcomes:

  1. 1. Familiarization with Sweets and Snacks Division of food industry.

  2. 2. Acquaintance and learning about the emerging trends in the area of innovative foods, and specialized technologies etc.

  3. 3. Awareness about the companies’ working in the field of automation, ingredients and packaging of food.

The Department of Food Technology, JNU, conducted an Industrial Tour to the World Mithai-Namkeen Convention & Expo (WMNC) 2021. The students visited the expo, held in Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre, which was one of the largest Food Expos in India on the 16th & 17th December, 2021, between 01:00 p.m. to 03:00 p.m.

The students downloaded their E-visitor cards and were allowed to explore the companies associated with sweets, snacks, bakery products, packaging, food consultancies and machines required in food manufacturing. Various large companies like Uflex, Benson refrigeration, KAP group, showcased their technologies. There were some relevant machinery manufacturers of heat transfer, preservation, oxygen absorption, sorting, grading, peeling, dehydration and packaging of food. Industries of colour, flavour and ingredient manufacturer, food testing agencies and other consultancies. Besides these, there were many small scale food business companies which offered a perfect example of start-up, inspiring the students in the areas of traditional Indian sweets and snacks, with the help of machines and with many other diverse flavours and innovative packaging techniques.

A lot of innovative foods were displayed there for sampling, as well as, for the students to taste and learn more about them. In addition, the students also got a very good opportunity to interact with people from the food industry, with the know-how of the industry’s working, and what all it needs further. The students also got a chance to taste and sample the new products.
