Pre Ph.D. Workshop

Second pre Ph.D. workshop for newly admitted Ph.D. Scholar was organized by School of Social Sciences in collaboration with School of Media Studies. It was organized in the auditorium of School of Media Studies, Jaipur National University, Jaipur.

On the first day i.e. on 19th January 2023, the workshop started with a welcome note by Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Head, School of Media Studies. The first session was on the topic “Research Methodology in Social Sciences”. It was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences, Jaipur National University, Jaipur. He gave a detailed overview of the different methodologies used in social sciences for conducting an effective research.

The second session was taken by Pro-Chancellor Prof. K.L.Sharma on the topic “How to Write a Publishable Manuscript”. He shares his experiences on the topic: why the paper gets rejected, what are the different issues taken into account for publication. He also shares his experience as a reviewer for some article in journals and things to be taken care of while sending the paper to journals for publications.

Third session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences, on topic “Research Design”. He throws light on the designing part of the research. How the research project should be designed. What are the different components taken into account while designing a research projects. All these aspects were discussed in detail during the session.

On the second day i.e. on 20th January 2023, the first session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences. The first session was on the topic “American Psychological Association manual VI edition”( due to unavailability of VII edition). Different style and mechanics while writing a paper or any research paper should be taken into account were discussed among the participants. The participants become aware what should be taken into account while writing a piece of manuscripts.

The second session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences on the topic “How to design tools for data collection”. In this session both qualitative and quantitative ways of data collection were discussed among the participants. Apart from it for quantitative methods how to develop interview schedule and questionnaire were described among the participants.

The third session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences on the topic “Ethics in Research”. Now a day’s ethics plays a very crucial role in the domain of research. What are the different components of ethics to be taken into account while performing any research? The main message conveyed to them was not to exploit any human or animal without taking their consent.

On the third day i.e. on 20th January 2023, the first session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences on the topic “Quantitative Methods”. In this the resource person made them conceptually aware about how to use any methods in their research. Along with it they were also made aware about when to use any methods.

The second session was taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences on the topic “Quantitative Methods”. Practically it was demonstrated by the resource person with three data set how to apply multiple logistic regression, binary logistic regression, ANOVA and discriminant analysis. The participants were made aware how to apply these methods in pursuing their research.

The last session was also taken by Mr. Amit Kumar, Head, School of Social Sciences on the topic “Doubt clarification and feedback”. The participants clear their doubt with the resource person on different aspects related to their research studies, its methodologies and analysis to be carried on.
