Lohri Celebration

Lohri is the harvest festival of Punjab, famously known as the bread-basket state of India. Thus, people residing in Punjab attach a great significance to Lohri, the festival of feasts and foods. Lohri festival prompts people to be thankful for God's provisions and to celebrate his creations, its focus on farming. So on that notes Lohri was celebrated in the SIILAS Campus on to introduce students to this culture and traditions. Hon’ble Chancellor Sir and Vice Chancellor Sir inaugurated the event by lighting the Lohri and flying the JNU Kite. The students had a gala time as they danced around the holy bonfire and offered their prayers for the prosperity of the nation. Folk songs were played to make the mood and soon everybody joined in the energetic rhythm! Peanuts, popcorn and gajak were handed out to the great delight of everyone. In this cultural event students of different schools performed Bhangra, Giddha and Punjabi folk dances with zeal and enthusiasm and also participated in kite flying celebration which filled everyone with joy, thrill and inspiration.
