JNU provides opportunity for school students by conducting experimental activity. Students were taught Cell division in plants. Where they were made aware of the fundamentals of equational division, students saw the different stages of mitosis under microscope with the help of permanent slides and they learnt the characteristic features of each sub-stage of mitosis.
Thereafter students were shown a basic laboratory procedure where they can prepare slide for mitosis stage from onion root tips, where cells remain in active, dividing stages. Students learnt the procedure, prepared the slide and enjoyed observing the sub-stages of mitosis under microscope in their prepared slides. The activity was conducted by Dr. Mithilesh Kumar , School of Life Sciences .
