“We aim to build real technocrat that can build the nation with technology”

Chemical Engineering is not only about chemical reactors and distillation columns but it is beyond that. The food we consume, the cosmetics we wear, the detergents we wash our clothes with, -are all a result of engineering of materials and their chemical reactions. Therefore, Chemical Engineering is a wide-ranging branch of engineering that explores vast applications into novel technologies.

Several areas including fuel combustion, energy transfer and reaction systems have been associated with Chemical engineering and since it is inevitable to these areas, it has also applications in microelectronics, textiles, medicine & healthcare, biotechnology, pulp & paper products, synthesis of advanced materials, and many other day to day consumer goods. Since the basic sciences like chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology and materials sciences are the main pillars of Chemical Engineering, it leads to the relevance of the field in the above mentioned areas.

Department of Chemical Engineering at Jaipur National University is endowed with young, vibrant and dynamic faculty well qualified to impart high quality teaching and research in Chemical Engineering. The research interests of the faculty vary broadly; pollution control, biodiesel, polymer, gas absorption, heat exchanger etc. that may demand a collaborative approach with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Materials Science, Bio-technology, Computing and Electronics.

Learning Perspectives of Chemical Engineering:

The B.Tech program in Chemical Engineering consists of two semester course  in basic and life sciences, engineering, humanities, and computer application, followed by six semester professional program that includes Chemical Engineering courses and interdisciplinary electives. In addition, our students carry out research projects for credit or informally to gain practical knowledge.

The department has qualified and experienced faculty from IITs and NITs.

The course curriculum has been so designed as to develop a disciplined approach and sound practical skills to manage modern chemical engineering practices, which include increased use of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mathematical techniques, matrix manipulations and compiler variables.

Theme of the technical fest was “Advances in Science & Technology”. Around 60 students from different streams viz., Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Biotechnology, 1st yr. B.Tech and M.Sc. Chemistry participated in different events viz., Paper presentation, Poster presentation, Model presentation, Quiz and Wordament with full enthusiasm. Participants displayed their presentations with full zeal and sprit:

* Papers were presented on: Nano-materials in cement industries, Advancements in food technology, Pulp and paper industries, Mushroom cultivation, etc.

* Posters were presented on: Vacuum membrane distillation, Probiotics and their health benefits, E-Nose, Artificial blood, etc.

* Models were presented on: Rotary dryer, Packed bed distillation, Home automation, Solar tracking, Hydraulic Crane, Hydraulic Bridge, etc.

V.C., Pro-V.C., Director, Sr. Jt. Director keenly observed the models, poster presentations & paper presentation and appreciated the efforts of participants. At the end of the fest, Director, Sr. Jt. Director presented the trophies and certificates to the winners. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. K.C. Sharma, Head of the Department.

International / National Academic Tie-ups

In order to pursue the best international experience, our students are enrolled into a new program titled Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN), approved by Govt. of India. This program enables interaction of students and faculty with the best academic and industry experts from all over the world and also share their experiences and expertise to motivate people to work on problems related to Indian context.

Industrial Visits

Students are encouraged to make presentations on emerging and industrially important topics like cryogenic processes, bio fuels, catalytic processes, reverse osmosis and bio-petrochemicals. Industrial tours are organized to expose the students to actual processes of working of chemical industries. As a part of the curriculum, the 4th and 6th semester students go for industrial trainings to organizations such as ONGC, GAIL, HPCL, IFFCO, DSCL, SFCL and DRDO.

During these visits students learn various processes and techniques about the manufacturing of various products. They closely observe the working of electrostatic precipitator, rotary kiln, pre-heater and cyclone separator. They attain knowledge about various parameters and also learn about the different systems in the plants.

Student Projects/Activities

The student project is designed to be held in 8th semester of the curriculum. An engineering project provides the opportunity to students to work in multi-disciplinary fields to pursue an engineering idea from conception to design. Projects help the students to implement the ideas, which is from concept to reality. It also helps in comparing the efficiency, durability and sustainability of the existing technologies with the innovative ideas.

Chemical Engineering Department organizes its annual technical fest Chem-Urja along with students of Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Biotechnology and M.Sc. The event comprises of oral presentation, model presentation, poster presentation and wordament.
