M.A.- M.Phil. (English) programme combines Master's degree course in Arts with Master of Philosophy. This programme is designed to meet the advanced interests of the students of English Studies in selected areas.

The duration of programme of M.A.- M.Phil. (English) is 3 years. A student who successfully completes the three years of M.A.- M.Phil. (English) programme shall be eligible for the award of two degrees: one M.A. English and the other M.Phil. English.

Applying for Admissions 2021

M.Phil. in English is a postgraduate program essentially involving a supervised research- based project in the English literature for one year. Students enrolled to the course have the option of choosing from among a variety of areas of research within the discipline. The course requires the successful completion of coursework in an optional subject in the Second semester, and completion of dissertation on a supervised essay in the chosen area of research.The Students’ performance in this dissertation lays the foundation for assessment of their eligibility for higher scholarly research (Ph.D.) in the discipline.

Graduates in English Literature also bends from media and journalism and work in journalistic profiles fulfilling roles such as that of an editor, news compiler, and news writer, news reader etc.

The Programme is divided in two semesters. In the first semester candidate has to undergo a rigorous coursework and has to pass four compulsory papers followed by Presentation of the research proposal. The second semester is exclusively given for research and compilation of Dissertation.

With the commencement of the course, the students are provided with a mentor. This mandatory mentorship is for first semester till their presentation of research proposal and then each candidate is allotted a Supervisor and a Teacher In-charge to support and guide them for their research.
