Seedling School of Nursing

It is an undergraduate two year programme which mainly focuses on, health care management and proficiency in nursing profession which offeres after three year diploma in General Nursing & Midwives. Post basic B. Sc. Nursing program is formulated to enable and upgrade students for better health care needs of community, state and nation after three year GNM diploma course.

Basic qualification & age: Diploma in general nursing & midwives from a recognised state nursing council with registration as a registered nurse & midwives. No age limit

Program Outcomes:

On Completion of the Four Year B.Sc. Nursing Program the graduate will be –

  • Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate understanding of life styles and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
  • Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  • Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  • Explain the actions, side effects and indications for use of common drugs administered to the sick. She should be able to administer them in the correct dosage and by the correct method and recognize and report any toxic effects thereof.
  • Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and Programmes.
  • Practice within the frame work of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective inter personal relationship and team work.
  • Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical and community health settings.
  • Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical / community health settings.
  • Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
  • Demonstrate awareness, interest, and contribute towards advancement of self and of the profession.
  • Provide antenatal supervision and conduct normal deliveries at home or in the hospital. She should be able to recognize the complications during antenatal, natal or postnatal period and seek help in time from a doctor. She should be able to suggest methods for the care of the newborn infant and to the mother. She should be able to suggest and implement various measures for fertility control necessary for the family welfare and planning programme and render service in this aspect at the individual as well as the community level.
  • Demonstrate adequate management and supervisory skill to coordinate the proper functioning of various personnel in the ward, outpatient department, rural health centres or the community. She should be able to teach both formally and informally in clinical nursing situations and in nursing education programmes.
  • Assist in common operative procedure and describe the surgical aspects, techniques and be skilled in its applications. She will be able to provide high quality team support to surgeons during operative procedures by cooperative planning and coordination of functions between nursing staff, surgical staff and anesthesia staff in an effort to improve the overall care of patient in the operating room

It provides active involvement of students in which their interests arise, decreases students’ anxiety, enable understanding, and enhance interaction between patient and health care provider.

    For real life experiences, students are posted in community setting, rural health centres and community health centres. Through various postings student nurses know about demographical setups, community health problems, sanitation, deprived health services and they enhance learning.   • Incidental Learning:

    Incidental learning is a very important part of practical learning in which we learn through unplanned incidents which occur during various postings. Usually it is not teaches as a theoretical part of the program. In health care practices various incidences provide incidental learning like casualty ward, emergency, and intensive units.

  • Context-Based Learning:

    From various experiences and insight approaches we learn new things which are based on certain context in which new information are interpreted where we relate with certain typically confined place and time. Learning can come from enriched context beyond classroom.

  • Adaptive Teaching:

    Generally most educational presentations and materials are the same for all and all learners are different. There is different problem to maintain problem solving. This adaptive learning provide solution from previous and personalized path.

  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Enabled Teaching:

    Now a days Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Enabled Teaching methods have been made available in the School of Nursing.
