Visit to Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI), Avikanagar (Raj)

Students from Department of Biotechnology, School of Engineering and Technology visited Central sheep and wool research institute (CSWRI), Avikanagar (Rajasthan) on 12th Sep, 2019. The main objective of the visit was to familiarize students with high throughput instruments, scientific research, its significance, and the economic importance. Students spent a day in CSWRI and participated enthusiastically. Students had healthy discussion with scientists and Ph.D. scholars, about the ongoing research projects, management of hybrid sheep/rabbits and wool processing. They were allowed to explore the laboratory and some major instruments were detailed by the Ph.D scholar including PCR thermal cycler, UV incubator, table top cooling centrifuge, fluorescence microscope, deep freezers, gel dryer, Sanger sequencer, gel-doc system, millipore water distillation unit etc. At last, students visited at the secured and controlled facilities for keeping varieties of sheep and rabbit. They were curious to observe the management and showed great interest in learning the importance of having various varieties used in wool production. The trip was a great learning experience for the students, which facilitates them to envision the working environment, the significance and the future opportunities related to Biotechnology.
