The Department of MSW focuses on grooming the aspirants as a great guidance worker, community developer which makes our society a better place to live in. MSW department makes the individuals realise the importance of uplifting and contributing to the social developments, also appreciating differences and intersectional ties, created through categorical imperatives of caste, class, gender, ethnicity and faith. The MSW department organises various events to contribute to society and enhance the quality of life. Carrying forward the torch of this mission, the School of Social Sciences organised an amiable event ASCENT in association with “AHAN Foundation” which was a skill development centre for specially abled people including lots of children. Through this event they have put an effort to publicise the gem hidden inside these exceptional young talent.
In the journey of ordinary to extra ordinary the event “ASCENT : sarokar..parishkar...sakar had been organised on April 27th , 2019 in SIILAS Auditorium with “Runway Show” along with an “Art Gallery” and a “Trade fair”. The event commenced with the lightening of lamp by dignitaries followed by Saraswati Vandana.
The event show cased the spectacular talent of intricate designing of autistic students on fabric panting & art on sarees, dupttas and fashion jewellery. MSW students were Models on ramp to exhibit the hand make painted fabrics of Autistic students. The models of Jaipur National University wore the collections made by the especially abled people from AHAN FOUNDATION, to illuminate their creative mind. The children also gave musical dance performances on stage and showcase their hidden talent.
To grace this occasion Madam Gurjot Kaur, Former Senior IAS, Government of Rajasthan and renowned social activist was the Chief Guest of the occasion. She appreciated the efforts done by MSW students who worked hard to provide an equal opportunity to most ignored section of society with the sense of equity and justice. She also congratulated Ahan foundation for their exceptional creativity and efforts.
Prof. H N Verma, Vice Chancellor of JNU in his presidential address expressed heartfelt greetings to all differently abled students and introduced the recent efforts done by JNU in promoting value based learning teaching environment for students at different campuses of JNU.
Dr. Preeti Baksi, Executive Director, JNU & Guest of Honor, in her address promoted audience to break their self made streo-types and accept the exceptional skill of mentally challenged and differently abled students. She emphasized that everyone should take a pledge to give equal opportunity, respect and support to this ignored section of society because even if they have exceptional creativity and expertise why general public hesitate to accept them. In general they are denied of their fundamental rights in society and family as well. She also motivated students to continue the journey of creating ordinary to extra ordinary in future. Prof. D.S. Bhatia, Director SIILAS Campus also congratulated the students and extended full hand help and association throughout the event. The program was unfolded with the glimpses of a documentary film on field work.
To motive, cherish & express love gift packets were also distributed to all participants of Ahan foundation.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Priyanka Mathur, Convener of the program and Head, School of Social Sciences and she further requested the audience and dignitaries to proceed for exhibition and Trade fare.
In Trade fair and exhibition the hardworking students of Ahan Foundation displayed materials. This trade fair was also open to public for purchase and order.
