SWAYAM or the Study web of Active Learning of Young Aspiring Mind programme is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Several other faculty members and professors from the prime institutes of India, like IITs, IIMs and other central universities are also offering many online courses for the Indian citizens.

This program was primarily designed to achieve the basic motto of education that is Access, Equity and Quality. This platform was a makeshift creation of MHRD and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The sole intent behind creating such platform is to provide the basics of education to those, who are the most underprivileged.

 

These courses are served by SWAYAM, in four quadrants

  • Video lecture
  • Specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/Printed
  • Self-assessment tests
  • An online discussion forum for clearing doubts

SWAYAM is a brilliant idea to bridge the gap of learning spectrum, especially for those, who cannot get benefited by the conventional educational framework of the society. This idea came to life through an originally created IT platform which facilitates hosting for all courses, which are being taught in any traditional classroom. All of these courses are accessible to every resident of India, for free of cost.

In order to enhance the educational experience, smart teaching methods, such as audio-visuals, multi-media and other advance techniques have been used in the study material. To ensure the best quality of the services, which are being provided, few national co-coordinators are designated:

All the online courses, provided by SWAYAM are available for free, however in order to get a certificate issues, the learner has to register and pay a nominal fee. Post the registration the learner shall be offered with a certificate, post successful completion of the course. After every course completion the leaner would undergo an assessment, through proctored examination and the credit scores could be transferred to the academic record of that particular student.
