• A sterile processing technician is someone who cleans and sterilizes used surgical instruments and other medical supplies so that they can be safely redistributed and reused on additional patients. This work is usually centralized in a special department of the medical facility.
  • Without medical sterilization technicians the Patients would not receive necessary surgeries. And many more people would lose their lives from preventable infection or untreated medical conditions. Their work impacts nearly every department within modern hospitals and surgical centers.

After completion of the course these technicians are posted in health care facilities where they maintain necessary supply levels in sterile storage areas. Other day-to-day duties of sterile processing technicians can include:

  • Operating and monitoring steam autoclaves, sonic washers, and other sterilizing equipment
  • Cleaning sterilizing equipment
  • Organizing surgical instrument trays
  • Recording sterilizer test results
  • Stocking and inventorying crash carts

Starting salary can be 10 to 15 thousand/month.
