Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies engineering, physics and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.

Mechanical engineering involves creating small parts for bigger machines to creating the big machines itself. B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering enables students to acquire the skills and the knowledge to be able to build machines that define tomorrow.

The core contents of this discipline focus on the study of Computer – Aided Design and Manufacturing, Rapid Prototyping, Robotics and Controls, Turbo Machinery and Combustion System, IC Engines, Nanomaterials, Tribology, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics.

Mechanical Engineering use the key principles of the field as well as knowledge of basic sciences to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment, heating and cooling systems, motors, vehicles, aircrafts, water crafts, robots and medical devices.

With the Diploma's degree it is definitely possible to enter professional life; however, the engineering education is rounded off by the corresponding Bachelor's and Master's degree program. Department is having Academic & Professional Collaboration with various professional bodies for support in Project Work, Workshops, Seminars and Industrial Exposure. Strong partnerships with industry and funded research provide great opportunities for student research and internships during their program of study.

Areas of Specialization

The discipline requires a sound understanding of the core concepts of Mechanics, Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science and Energy.

Academics

Mechanics of Solid Laboratory

  • The students learn the properties (i.e. tensile, compressive, toughness etc.) of various materials in different load conditions.
  • Students perform various experiments on the specimens (mild steel) to check their properties.

 

Automobile Laboratory

  • Cut-sections of 2-stroke& 4-stroke (petrol & diesel) multi-cylinder engines are in this lab for better understanding of their internal operations.

 

CNC (Computerized Numeric Control) Laboratory

  • The machines present in this lab are controlled by various softwares installed in a computer.
  • Basically, machining processes (turning, taper turning, drilling and  milling ) are controlled by 2-D & 3-D movement of tool.

 

Thermal Engineering Laboratory

  • Students here get the knowledge about the impact of heat changes in  2-stroke& 4-stroke (petrol & diesel) engines.
  • Students understand the concept of power generation in each cylinder of a multi-cylinder engine.

 

Production Laboratory

  • Students perform various operations in a workpiece to convert it into the desired shape and size.
  • The theory of machining and metal cutting can be practically visualized in this lab.

 

Mechanical Workshop Laboratory

  • The lab is prescribed for the first year students of all branches.
  • Experiments in this lab give the practical knowledge of various production processes and shops i.e. Fitting shop, Foundry shop, Machine shop & Welding shop etc.

 

Dynamics & Kinematics of Machine Laboratory

  • The lab helps the students in understanding the motion and various forces applied in various equipments.
  • Experiments in this lab give the practical study of various automobile assemblies like cultch, brake, cams, gyroscope, governors etc.

 

Heat Transfer Laboratory

  • The lab helps in understanding the various modes of heat transfer processes.
  • The students understand how the transfer of heat from one material to other material takes place.

 

Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machines Laboratory

  • The lab helps the students in understanding the discharge of water flow conditions.
  • The students get practical knowledge of various turbines, axial flow compressors and centrifugal pumps, in this lab.

The department organizes frequent industrial and educational visits to enhance the practical knowledge of the core areas among the students.
