Logistics & Supply Chain Industry

Logistics is the art and science of managing and controlling the flow of goods, information and other resources from the source of production to the marketplace. Logistics is concerned with strategically managing the supply chain so that the right goods get to the right place, in the right quantity, at the right time, in the best condition & at an acceptable cost. Logistics is involved everywhere. An integral part of the product lifecycle, team logistics ensures that the products that you see, experience and use are made available to you at your place of residence or anywhere else you demand. 

Careers in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

  • Indian logistics industry is estimated to generate business worth $110 billion in the next 2 years.
  • The industry would need around 420,000 skilled manpower by 2022
  • Transportation is projected to add 417,000 net jobs from 2012 to 2022 due to industry growth, over 2 million jobs needed to be filled due to industry growth.
  • The sector, which currently employs over 16.74 million employees, is slated to employ more than 28.4 million employees by 2022. Hence, this sector will have one of the highest incremental human resource requirement of 11.7 million from 2013-2022.
  • India is set to witness investments close to 50,000 crores for in the creation of warehousing facilities across the country between 2018 and 2020.
  • The global logistics industry is valued at US$ 8.1 trillion & will grow to US$ 15.5 trillion by 2023.
  • The U.S., which contributes to over 25% of the global industry value, spends close to 9% of its GDP on logistics services.
  • The sector currently employs over 40 million people in the world.
  • The country's logistics industry which is worth around USD 160 billion is likely to touch USD 215 billion in the next two years with the implementation of GST.

Salary Packages / Remuneration

  • Typically initial salary packages range from Rs. 4 Lac to 8 lac per annum.
