1. Where is Jaipur National University located?

JNU is located in Jaipur which is the capital city of Rajasthan. The area is called Jagatpura (at the foothills of the Aravali Hills), near the new RTO office on the Agra Jaipur bypass.

2. How do I get to JNU/Jaipur from my hometown?

Jaipur is well connected by rail, road and air to all major cities of India, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. Proximity to Delhi (250 Km. only) is an added advantage.

3. When did JNU come into existence?

JNU has been in existence since October 22, 2007 when the Government of Rajasthan announced its establishment as per the Ordinance 7 of 2007. However, our two professional institutes of Seedling Group setup in 2002, with several technical & professional programmes of studies, were merged with the university to form the major part of the university.

4. Who is the Chancellor of the University?

The driving force of the University is the Hon'ble Chancellor, Mr. Sandeep Bakshi, a leading edu-entrepreneur of the State. With more than 30 years' experience in the field of education, this dynamic visionary is also the CEO and Director of the prestigious Seedling group of schools in Jaipur. He was honored with the VOCATIONAL EDUCATION ENTREPRENEUR RESEARCH AWARD (2009) by the Confederation of Indian Universities for his contribution to innovative and futuristic learning.

5. Who is the Vice Chancellor of JNU?

The Vice Chancellor of JNU is Prof. K.L. Sharma, a highly acclaimed academician and noted sociologist of international repute. Prior to joining JNU, he was the Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan University and Pro VC at Jawahar Lal University, New Delhi. Prof. Sharma has supervised 35 doctoral students and authored and edited 23 books and published more than 80 papers. The UGC has honoured him for his contributions to the discipline of Sociology.

6. Who is the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University?

Prof. H.N. Verma, who was formerly Pro VC of Lucknow University and is a renowned name in the field of Biotechnology. Prof. Verma is the proud recipient of several prestigious awards for his contribution in the field of Life Sciences. A fellow of the National Academy of Science, he has authored 3 books and more than 140 research papers. His main teaching and research interests include Biotechnology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

8. Is your university approved by UGC? Is your courses approved by AICTE, BCI, PCI, NCTE, etc?

The University has the approval and recognition of all statutory national bodies, including the UGC. All technical courses are approved by the AICTE, BCI, PCI, and NCTE. In addition, the Schools of Distance Education and Learning has been approved and recognized by the DISTANCE EDUCATION COUNCIL and the Joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC for offering certain programmes through Distance Education mode.

9. Where can I find a map giving JNU's location?

JNU's location can be sighted on Google Earth and the University's website.

10. Has JNU witnessed any acts of ragging?

Not at all. Ragging is a grievous and punishable offence and is strictly prohibited. Strict action is likely to be taken against a student who indulges in any act likely to offend the sensibility of other students or jeopardizes their physical or mental well being.


11. How many Schools/Colleges are there at JNU?

All the teaching and research programmes of JNU are conducted at its 15 Schools dealing in different disciplines. These include the Schools of Engineering and Technology, Law and Governance, Life Sciences, Business and Management, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pharmaceutical Science, Education, Nursing, Social Sciences, Media Studies etc.

12. Does your University have any international collaboration?

JNU is proud to be associated with Universities abroad for the purpose of joint research projects, teacher student exchange programmes, development of curricula and other academic activities. University of Ireland, Bond University of Australia and other eminent institutes in Britain and Germany are our partners in the pursuit of a more globalised education network.

13. Does JNU award degrees to its students on a regular basis?

Absolutely. In the short span of its existence, the University has already organized two Convocations which were attended by political luminaries and educational stalwarts. Degrees and medals were awarded to more than 1300 students at the two Convocations.

14. How does JNU fulfill its social obligations?

The University has a philanthropic orientation and awards scholarships, free ships, remedial / add on courses and other necessary facilities for the needy students. Moreover, scholarships have been instituted for meritorious students.

15. Does the University have state of art infrastructure?

Absolutely, yes. Among its various facilities are air cooled hostels, excellent Mess and Cafeteria, a well equipped auditorium and seminar halls, a well stocked library, Indoor and outdoor sports facilities, well0coordinared transport network, Wi-fi hot spots, 24×7 internet access and round the clock security.

APPLYING TO JNU ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

16. If I need information about admission details or the procedure for applying to JNU programmes, whom should I contact?

You can call the counseling cell of JNU (0141-3080601, 602, 603, 604, 605) and / or the Director of the concerned School in which you seek admission. JNU also keeps advertising in all leading newspapers from time to time regarding admission to its varied programmes

17. What distance learning courses are offered at JNU?

The School of Distance Education and Learning offers the following UG and PG Programmes, all of which are duly approved. BCA, MCA, PGDCA, MBA, B.Com, BBA, MA English, Finance, Marketing, PG Diploma in HRM.

18. I've already completed one year of my degree course but now wish to join your University. Does JNU have any provisions to accept transfer students?

Yes. If the student is eligible and fulfils the basic criteria, he / she may be given admission through the Lateral Entry Scheme.

19. Where should I report on my first day?

A letter is sent to all students and a copy of the same is available on the website.

20. What is the mode of payment to deposit the fee?

The amount may be submitted in cash/by DD and may be deposited directly in the University A/c in any branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB)

21. What are the University's rules for attendance?

75% attendance is compulsory for all students pursuing regular courses of study.

22. What is the prescribed dress code for JNU students?

All schools have their own academic dress / uniform, details of which may be obtained from the concerned Directors. Students are expected to be neatly attired and in keeping with University norms.

23. When does the term/session start? What are the timings of the University?

New session for the first semester students starts from the 8th of August and for the students of other semesters, the session starts in the first week of July.

Classes start sharp at a 9 a.m. and go on till 3.45 p.m.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

24. Whom should I contact in matters related to Hostel / Mess?

For any problems / queries related to the Hostel or Mess, the 0SD, Provost or the wardens may be contacted.

25. Can I go home without informing the warden?

In order to ensure the safety and security of the students, JNU has laid down strict rules for Hostel inmates. Before going anywhere, it shall be binding on the student to inform the warden and obtain his / her permission.

26. I'm visiting JNU in a few weeks. Can I put up in your premises?

It would depend upon the availability of accommodation in the University Guest Houses.

28. How can I apply for a job at JNU?

Vacancies are advertised in all regional and national newspapers and same are posted on the website also. You are advised to follow the instructions in the same regarding the procedure for application.

29. What is the University's role in the placement of its students?

JNU has an independent placement cell to facilitate campus placements and jobs for the students. The placement cell also imparts training in soft-skills, personality development, written and oral skills and about over all employment trends in both corporate and public sectors. 30. Can you name some companies / institutes where JNU students have received training and employment?

The list is mammoth and includes big names like IBM, Google India, Satyam Computers, WIPRO, Reliance, Tata Industries, Hotel Hyatt, JW Marriot, Radission, Ranbaxy, Dabur, Godrej, Novartis, ICICI, HDFC, etc.

31. Does JNU have any research inclinations?

Along with academic teaching, JNU puts thrust on quality research in all fields. Besides providing on-campus research facilities, the University has entered into collaboration with various Universities and Research Institutes both in India and broad to strengthen the research activities and networking of sharing of knowledge and expertise.
